Update to PIP bill

March 13th, 2012

The Bad News:
We just learned Massage Therapy and Acupuncture are not covered under PIP anymore according to the PIP bill passed the Senate on final passage 22 to 17.
The actual section read:
5. Medical benefits do not include massage as defined in s. 480.033 or acupuncture as defined in s. 457.102, regardless of the person, entity, or licensee providing massage or acupuncture, and a licensed massage therapist or licensed acupuncturist may not be reimbursed for medical benefits under this section.
The Good News:
Community Acupuncture is very affordable (like a co-pay) and very helpful after a car accident!! $20 – $ 40 sliding scale.

An interesting thought from The Daily OM

Regret
The Weight of the Past

Holding onto regret is like dragging the weight of the past with us everywhere we go.

It drains our energy, leaving less available for life in the present because we are constantly feeding an old issue. This attachment can cause illness the same way watering a dead plant creates decay. We know that something new and beautiful can grow in its place if we only prepare the soil and plant the right seeds. We also know that we create our lives from our thoughts, so dwelling on the past may actually recreate a situation in our lives where we are forced to make the choice again and again. We can choose to move on right now by applying what we have learned to the present and perhaps even sharing with others, transforming the energy into something that is constructive and creative for ourselves and others.

Forgiveness is the soothing balm that can heal regret. In meditation, we can imagine discussing the issue with the self of our past and offering our forgiveness for the choice. In return, we can ask for our selves’ forgiveness for keeping them locked in that space of judgment for so long. We may also want to ask forgiveness from anyone else who may have been affected and perhaps offer our forgiveness. By replaying the event in our minds, we can choose a new ending using all that we now know. Imagine that you have actually gone back into the past and made this change, and then say goodbye to it. Release your former self with a hug and bring the forgiveness and love back with you to the present. Since we are usually our harshest critics, it is amazing how powerfully healing it can be to offer ourselves love.

Keeping our minds and our energy fully in the present allows us to fuel our physical and emotional healing and well-being today. This action frees our energy to create the dreams we dream for the future. By taking responsibility and action in the present, we can release our hold on the past. from The Daily OM on 2/27/12

Medical Qi Gong Theory: The Three Bodies

January 21st, 2012

“The human soul is enveloped by and composed of three bodies. These three bodies are linked together, constantly influencing one another. While in the mother’s womb, the human soul is initially enveloped in a spiritual body. Then an energetic body is formed within the spiritual body. Finally, the physical body is constructed within the spiritual and energetic bodies. This allows the individual to live within the lower levels of creation. All three bodies have substance, yet they exist at different levels of vibration.”
Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson, in Chinese Medical QiGong Therapy, Vol. I, p.87

Divine Music

November 10th, 2011

“The ancient Daoists believed that music was the basis of everything; that all things,

including the human body, were molded according to the music performed within its

substance. According to this theory, a primordial sound emitted from a central

spiritual source created the entire physical universe. “     “Music was also believed to

have a powerful social and political influence. Confucius once stated that if the music

of a kingdom changed, then its society would alter itself accordingly.”

Professor Jerry Alan Johnson

Chinese Medical QiGong Therapy, Vol I

If you are what you eat, you are also what you listen to (and read, and watch, and do.)

Confucius was lucky, he didn’t have to filter out environmental noise pollution, such as noxious pop or rap music.

Improving Digestion, part 2

November 7th, 2011

Other strategies we like for improving digestion, particularly if you have an illness:

Research colon hydrotherapists in your area. Herbal colon cleansing can be helpful, and we recommend the kit from Blessed Herbs (this can be found online.)

Abdominal self massage is valuable (there are several approaches to this, such as mayan massage, Chinese tui na, etc.

If you have upper GI problems (such as GERD), it is important to look at whether or not you have low stomach acid.  There are simple ways to determine this, and you can ask your health care provider  about this.

Medical QiGong treatments, acupuncture and herbal medicine are all recommended.

One last note:  Optimal sleep times can support the health of the digestive tract, and this means sleeping deeply between 10pm and 6 am.
